It's hard to find a good custom shop. And, as a similar saying goes, it's good to find a custom shop that builds hard rides - well, something like that. In all seriousness, it is truly hard to find a place that will customize your truck just the way you want it, especially in Chandler, Arizona. This is a suburb that has popped up virtually overnight, east of Phoenix, to keep up with the city's booming population.
Rob Skeoch is a young entrepreneur who saw the need for a one-stop custom shop in this new desert oasis. Developers may have been building new roads, schools, and random strip malls to sway people into moving so far out, but car stereo shops weren't high on their priority list. So, Rob opened up Unique Car Audio right in the middle of Chandler. This sounds like a great idea for any business - start fresh in a growth market with little to no competition. But to play it safe, you would want to start small and keep costs down, don't you think? You know, get a small, out-of-the-way bay in a strip mall somewhere and just focus on one thing, such as car stereos. Rob didn't care to play it safe, or he just didn't think, and went big from the start.
Like his shop, Rob decided that his demo vehicle had to be big and stand out from everything else around it, so he chose a massive Ford F-350 dualie with an equally substantial Navistar 7.3L Power Stroke diesel engine. Instead of lifting it, which is somewhat more common with Fords of this stature (and due to the fact that he already had a lifted F-350), Robert decided to once again turn his head on convention and slam the truck to the ground on Air Ride Technologies suspension. Next, a set of custom rolling stock was called upon. Once again, Rob went big with a set of APP-forged one-piece Thunder II 19x6.75-inch wheels shod by Pirelli Scorpion Zero rubber.
These two mods had the truck looking pretty good, but it didn't attract enough attention, so the body was next in line for modification. With that, Chris Cowen was called in to shave all the emblems, tailgate handle, cut a custom blow-through, and set the truck up with custom bumpers. Stylish multicolor graphics were next on Rob's list, so he sent the truck out to Olin Designs, where the truck was coated with various hues from House of Kolor.
