Enduro SSR

These extraordinary SSRs are equipped with the latest and greatest in performance and entertainment. Check out America's best drop-top trucks with nearly 2,000 hp and 5,000 watts between these four customs. Enjoy this special section as each SSR sets the bar even higher for future convertible truck builders.

Detroit Locker's Mover and ShakerSlamming into the form-fitting Mastercraft seat with nothing but the open road ahead, I quickly realized this was no ordinary Chevy offering. Turning heads on the freeway, at the dragstrip, and at the autocross course, the Duntov-inspired SSR had the exceptional looks to go with the exceptional power. The sweet music to my ears included the whine of the MagnaCharger supercharger and the throaty resonance of the MagnaFlow muffs. Can this be the pudgy, low-excitement SSR that I had driven before? The answer was yes. This was an SSR, but not the cookie-cutter model sold at your local Chevy dealership. No, this retro-looking '60s-era SSR was a custom project designed to ruffle the GM onlookers' feathers. This is how Chevy should have built 'em.

Detroit Locker is no newcomer to the custom truck world. Working hard to make it a traction-adding leader in the wide world of motorsports, Detroit Locker also builds differentials for OE automotive and heavy machinery, proving it has what it takes to make its products last. Bolted under the SSR's TrailBlazer frame is a new Detroit Truetrac with the OE traction control. The new Truetrac unit features three larger and stronger steel pinion gears for surefire grip and excellent durability-both of which are needed with one press of the accelerator

After installing the Truetrac unit, Detroit Locker turned the reigns over to DJ&F International to finish building the one-of-a-kind truck. Under the hood lies a 5.3L engine equipped with a polished and inter-cooled supercharger from MagnaCharger force-fed by a K&N filter. Dynatech long-tube headers were installed to help exhale the spent fumes, and MagnaFlow mufflers give the powerful V-8 a great-sounding rumble. Controlling the intricate computer programming is a SuperChips handheld programmer. Final horsepower figures on the chassis dyno came in at an astounding, heart-pounding 492 hp. I can attest to the power. With this much on tap, the SSR needed better handling characteristics and added safety.
