During the weekend of May 14-16, the town of Greenville, Mississippi, was alive with custom truck fanatics who came together for the 9th Annual Showfest Custom Truck Show hosted by the Assorted Miniatures truck club. This event is known for bringing out some of the lowest, smoothest, and most detailed show trucks on the circuit, and this year was no exception. Wild pavement-shredding fullsize and mini-truck stunners rolled into town on Friday evening, while enthusiasts kicked off the weekend with an all-night street party. To shift the weekend into high gear, participants cruised the main drag through town hitting their switches while dragging their trucks' frames and rocker panels on the ground, putting on an impressive spark show. Spectators lined both sides of the main drag through town to watch this assembly of gearheads lay their trucks on the ground at speed and send their rear tires up in a blaze of smoke.
Once the sun came up on Saturday morning, the hotel parking lots throughout town began to empty out and participants made their way to the Washington County Convention Center showgrounds, where the Assorted Miniatures staff was busy getting trucks registered, parked in the show, and classed for judging. The show brought out many detailed and quality-crafted show rides, which gave the Truckin' crew quite a bit of sensational sheetmetal to focus our lenses on. From a 'bagged and flamed late-model Chevy Colorado to a juiced and body-dropped Ford F-150 sporting a nasty 429ci big-block Ford, Showfest had something for every type of enthusiast. Mini-truck fanatics were in heaven at Showfest, as several trick domestic and import minis competed for the gold in their respective classes.
This year, Showfest seemed to be a debut show for some extremely nice custom Ford Rangers. There were quite a few wildly customized minis in attendance wearing the Blue Oval badge. Vendor row allowed enthusiasts to browse custom offerings from Air Lift, Air Ride Technologies, Billet Accessories Direct, Ektensive Metalworks, Fusion Car Audio, KAIK Products, and The Wheel Stop. Both Air Lift and Fusion Car Audio were title sponsors of the event. After the show ended Saturday afternoon, it was back to the strip to cruise, lay some rubber, do some dragging, and wrinkle some roll pans. The scene on Saturday night was similar to that of Friday night, with spinning tires creating puffy white clouds of smoke as they spun wildly on the Greenville roadway. Sparks lit up the night sky as frames and rocker panels hit the tarmac. Hotel balconies were filled with enthusiastic onlookers clutching beverages as the custom truck mayhem unfolded down below.
Sunday morning came early and participants headed back to the convention center to spend a bit more time showing their trucks and hanging out with friends before the trophies were presented. By early afternoon, the Showfest staff had totaled up the points, and participants gathered in the convention hall for the presentation of awards. The crew from Assorted Miniatures did an amazing job putting on this event, and we recommend that if you didn't make it this year, be sure to attend Showfest 2005.
