2007 Ford Sport Trac - One For The Show
Guillermo applies 2-inch-long soft glass fibers through a "chopper gun" at about a foot per second. The chopper gun also applies a continuous resin stream, soaking the ejected fiberglass strands. While Guillermo was applying the fiberglass strands to the gelcoated mold surface, Bernabe Domingues was using a small stainless steel roller.
Guillermo continued to apply fiberglass strands through the chopper gun.
Fiberglass matting was applied with the chopped fiberglass strands for reinforcement and rigidity.
Fiberglass matting was also applied to areas that needed added rigidity and impact.
Another layer of fiberglass was sprayed for added thickness.
After the final chopped and soaked fiberglass strands were extracted, they were worked into a compressed matt form rolling out all of the possible air bubbles.
The finished part was separated from the mold by using pop sticks (plastic wedges) that were forced between the mold and the part. A high-pressure air nozzle was used to blow air between the mold and part. The mold and part were carried over to the Sport Trac were the part was lifted out of the mold.
The new custom fiberglass, front fascia was aligned then mounted to the front of the Sport Trac.
The new front fascia gives the Sport Trac a whole new leading edge.
A custom-shaped mold was made up to create the fiberglass aero side skirts.
The factory bedrails would receive custom covers to maintain that smooth appearance.
